Kochav HaShachar, situated within half-an-hour drive of Jerusalem, overlooks the Judean Desert, the Dead Sea, and the Shomron and Jordan mountain ranges. Kochav Hashachar is a national-religious community of 300 families, comprising Kochav Hashachar itself, Maaleh Shlomo and Mitspe Kramim within the jurisdiction of the Mateh Binyamin Regional Council. The resident population is over 2,700 people.
The words Kochav HaShachar mean The Morning Star in English. The name is appropriate as the city is located on a hilltop with great sunrise views. The city is located in the portion of Israel that was designated for the tribe of Binyamin (Benjamin).
